Recognizing the 2019-2020 Megawatt STEM Scholarship Recipients
Chicago, IL – June 12, 2019: Today, LafargeHolcim introduced the three Paulding, Ohio students who were awarded the Megawatt Scholarships. The Megawatt Scholarships, established in November 2018 in partnership with One Energy, are awarded annually to local students pursuing degrees in a STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) field.

This year’s recipients include:
- Austin Chirgwin, Antwerp High School, Biomedical Engineering, IUPUI (Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis)
- Madison Coyne, Wayne Trace High School, Aerospace Engineering, University of Cincinnati
- Reece Thompson, Wayne Trace High School, Computer Engineering, University of Cincinnati
Three Megawatt Scholarships, one for each turbine being built at the Paulding Plant, are awarded to local high school graduates in Paulding pursuing two-year or four-year STEM degrees. Additionally, names of the scholarship recipients will be permanently placed on the tower base of the wind turbines, in recognition of the students’ hard work and achievement.

Construction of three wind turbines at the Paulding Plant began in December 2018, in line with the company’s commitment to finding alternative sources of clean energy that lower environmental impact. Once completed, the turbines will supply energy to the plant with any excess going to the surrounding community. They are expected to generate more than 12 million kWh annually, which could eliminate the equivalent of more than 9,000 tons of CO2.
